Night Children [Chapter Seventy Three] Assembled
I was riding one of the horses. The majority of my aches, pains and injuries were gone now, though the constant bumpy movement of the galloping horse was enough to make me most uncomfortable. Some phantom injuries ached and I acknowledged that I had not forgotten them.
Beside me at all times was Viktor for he would not leave my side. The wolves travelled a little ahead, though the horses didn’t spook very often around them anymore. The kids rode on the wolves backs cheerfully. Alana and Griever ran up ahead as well, watching over the twins as if they felt my anxiety.
We turned down the well beaten path and found that Arista and Melinda were waiting for us. I got off the horse and smiled at them. “Good to see you both again.”
“And you as well,” Melinda responded hugging me. Everyone hugged, smiled, laughed a little. We walked toward the village I was in charge of. Some were asking each other questions. Some were telling jokes. I was quiet, Viktor holding my hand as I held the reigns of my horse. Before the end of the night, we would all be together again.
The gate opened for us on sight of me. People started to greet us as soon as we stepped in. Some people still hid in their homes, fearful of the Night and Moon Children. None of them would go against me though. I spoke to the people for a while before heading toward the large house in which I stayed.
I let the wolves into a room by mine so they could shift back and get dressed. The children were both sleepy and Viktor held Adeline and Alaric in his arms. He wouldn’t let me hold them till he was sure my injuries were all better.
I lead everyone to my room and opened the door with out thought. “Hey guys!” Stepping in I saw Helena in a towel, hunched over with her panties in hand keeping her arm outstretched as far as possible while Markus stood behind her his hand around her waist insuring she didn’t go far, he was leaning over her reaching for the undergarments.
Both their heads turned quickly at my voice. “This isn’t what it looks like,” they both remarked quickly.
“I didn’t know what it was suppose to look like,” Viktor said with a grin. Markus let Helena go and she dashed into the adjoining bath.
“What the hell?” I questioned quickly.
Markus stayed quiet for a moment thinking before speaking, “I don’t think it matters how I answer this, either way you are going to get me in shit.”
I thought about that, if he said that he wasn’t interested and they were just horsing around I’d get angry because he wasn’t interested in such an amazing woman, and for lying. If he told the truth on how he desired her I’d get defensive over her. I smiled, “smart boy.”
Markus grinned, “do I get a cookie?”
I rolled my eyes and Viktor stepped around me putting the kids in my bed and pulling the blankets over them. They were both already asleep, and I smiled looking over at them.
I showed Seth and Colleen a room for them to stay and get some rest, Colleen had been swaying she was so exhausted. Melinda, Arista, Alana and Griever sat at some of the plushy chairs. Douglas went home deciding it was quite awkward now between him and Viktor. When Helena got the guts to come out she was still blushing.
“Helena,” I spoke proudly as I embraced her. “Thank you so much for all that you have done for me.” I pulled away and she was grinning shyly, still I knew she was happy with my praise. “Now let me introduce you to everyone. You’ve already met Arista, but this is Melinda the other Soul child, Alana, Griever, and my... mate.” I grinned foolishly at the word, Viktor smirked, “Viktor. Everyone, this is Helena.”
“It is nice to meet you,” Alana said. Griever grunted, and Alana rolled her eyes, “forgive him, he gets like this if he’s been running to long.”
“Thank you for taking care of my Angel,” Viktor said sweetly as he stood and went to hug her but she jolted back.
“When you move to fast she does that,” Markus cleared up when Viktor looked confused.
“Sorry, everyone I’ve ever been around expects me to be fast,” Viktor said to Helena.
“It’s okay, I should be use to it from Markus, it’s just... weird, we Soul Children are still the ones with average speed.” She walked into Viktor’s open arms. I thought I would be jealous, but I wasn’t. Perhaps because I could see so clearly that Markus never took his eyes off her, and how she had seemed so comfortable with him till the rest of us came along.
Viktor let her go, and I grabbed her hand, “come see,” I said dragging her over to the bed and we both looked at the twins who were illuminated by the candles on the night stand. “They are adorable!” Helena gushed.
I smiled proudly and kissed them both on the cheek before returning to where everyone else was sitting up. Late at night Arista and Melinda opted for going home, they had personal guards who would be assuring they got back safely. I was getting sleepy and Viktor was insisting I went to sleep, just like Markus was quietly telling Helena to get some rest. He was persistent and eventually carried Helena to bed since she’d fallen asleep in the chair.
Alana and Griever were content where they were speaking softly to one another. Markus was reading a book in a chair at the end of Helena’s bed. I laid down on the soft bed. It wasn’t the castle, but it was better than the dumps we had been sleeping in.
Being able to see the children right across from me, having Viktor’s warm arms around me holding me close to his body, the light, the mummers of other Night Children, the flicking of pages, and the soft breath of Helena sleeping were the perfect conditions of a good nights sleep. I rolled so I was facing Viktor and I tilted my head and kissed his jaw, he smiled and looked down at me and I captured his lips.
His hands were entwined in my hair and still supportive of the back of my head, he pulled me closer, our lips crashing into a well practised dance of lips and tongue. I sighed when he pulled away, he chuckled, “get some rest Angel.”
“Why would I want to dream?” I questioned him groggily, “everything I want is right here.”
Viktor’s smile made my heart flutter. “Get some sleep,” he kissed me on top of my head and rolled onto his back. I pulled myself closer despite some protests from injuries. I laid my head on his chest my arm over his stomach. His hand absentmindedly rubbed my back, I sighed as exhaustion took hold and I drifted into dream land.
