//We Run This Town//Chapter 037//
Lexie parked her mother’s car at the ski lodge and went to the front end clerk. “Hi, I appear to have lost my key, I’m rooming with my boyfriend. Gavin Burke.”

The slopes were nice, refreshing and drama free. Gavin sighed fresh mountain air. “Beautiful,” he whispered. The rest of the guys had gone up on previous lifts which left him alone momentarily on the top. Looking down on other skiers and staff he sat down a moment, crouched more than anything since it was quite difficult to fully sit with skis on. In that moment, there was no mafia war and wondering if he was on the right or wrong side, or if he was completely impartial. He’d been brought up to know right from wrong, but he’d never experienced this grey in between, this internal conflict. He knew he was becoming more ‘mafia’ he already knew to much, and his father was in legion with them.
He pushed the brief wonders of his mother from his mind. She’d just...left. What kind of mother does that? His heart ached and before really thinking he was up and the wind was rushing against him leaving his mother at the top of the hill.
At the bottom the rest of the guys were waiting, “want to hang out at the lodge?” Linden asked.
“Na, I’m whipped, a hot shower and a warm bed sounds like my plan.” He left the rest of the gang, and seen Darren talking to a woman who looked kind of familiar. He couldn’t quiet place her, and decided it would just be easier to ask him in the morning. He took the stairs up to the second floor and took out his room key.

“Ma?” The house was silent and Gemma reached out the door and grabbed Ivan’s hand. She caught his blush and smiled. Boys didn’t blush anymore, but Ivan did. It gave her cold heart butterflies. “Come on in!”
“What about your dad?” Ivan was insanely nervous and kept his voice at a whisper. Sure he was curious, to see where Gemma lived... to see her room if he was lucky. But to meet her parents... with the rumours about the Lombardi’s. He felt nauseous.
“He’s currently in Italy.” Why, Gemma wasn’t sure. Something to do with the Valentino’s? She hoped not, it might mean someone was attacking Gran and Gramps, and that made her worried. But what else could make his father leave to Italy? What reason would he have? She lead him through the house, spacious, organized, clean, and expensive. The feeling Ivan had could only be explained as that one you have as a child when you go into a store filled with breakables and your mother tells you to put your hands behind your back. Yeah, that one, foolish, young and dumb.
She took him up the stairs, and opened the door, “this is my room.” It was painted in gold, metallic flecks reflecting the sunlight pouring through her large windows. She had a king sized four poster bed, and a chandelier hanging from her ceiling. “What do you think?”
“You don’t have a desk.” It was stupid, but it just seemed that a high school student should have a desk in their room.
“I have a study down the hall.”
“Oh.” Ivan shuffled his feet, “a study.”
“Yeah, spells l-a-m-e doesn’t it.” Gemma shrugged. She grabbed his hand with a big smile, “come on, you’re going to love this.” She pulled open a door within her room, he assumed it would be her closet, but it lead to an entire other room. A game room.
“Holy shit!” Ivan’s jaw dropped as he stared. Video game consoles were on one side of the big screen LCD tv, and on the other side, on the same row was the games belonging to that console. “And I thought I was a nerd.”
“I’m a closet nerd,” she said sticking out her tongue, “don’t tell anyone.”
“I won’t.”
“What do you want to play first?”
Ivan shrugged, “I could stay in here for hours and not even read the titles of all the games you own.”
“It is quite the impressive collection if I do say so myself.”
There was a sudden bang and both Gemma and Ivan jumped. “What was that?”
“I don’t know.” Gemma grabbed the tv remote and plugged in channel 5. It flicked through feeds. “Security cameras,” Gemma explained when Ivan gave her a weird look. At the back door was a blurry image of Adam holding up Ceasario, who looked to be injured. “Shit!” She ran and then stopped at her bedroom door when she realized Ivan was following her. “Stay here!” She then trampled down the stairs, popped the lock and took the other side of Ceasario. “Caesar?” She looked to Adam, “what’s wrong with him?”
“Wasn’t there.” Adam replied breathlessly. They put him down on the white sofa and Gemma softly removed his hands. “Call your mom!” She shouted at him referring to Serena DeLuca, their medic.
“Can’t, she’s off in Italy with your dad!”
“Who do we call then?”
“You need towels,” Gemma whipped her head around to see Ivan, “with warm water... don’t look at me get them!”
“Keep pressure!” Adam ordered Gemma when she went to go, Adam ran off to the bathroom to collect.
“I told you to stay out of this,” Gemma growled.
“Looks like you could use me.”
“What do you know?”
He glared at her, “my mom’s a surgeon. He needs one.” Adam came back with towels and they dabbed some of the blood away. Enough to see the wound clearly. “He needs a doctor.” Adam got out his phone. “Calling nine-one-one?” Adam shook his head. “Why the hell not?!”
“Preston! Thank God, Ceasario has been...shot? Stabbed, I don’t know, he was late I went to see what was holding him up... I don’t know, but he’s bleeding, what do we do?”
“Take him to a doctor!” Ivan shouted.
“No, I don’t know who’s shouting,” Adam glared. “I really don’t know Pres... he’s bleeding...”
Gemma got up and Ivan too her place. She angrily snatched the phone from his hands, “do you want him to die?”
“Gemma...” Preston’s voice was soft, “no, I don’t.”
“He needs a doctor, we have no medical staff to say otherwise, and even if it was minor, we don’t know how to deal with it!”
“We can’t trust the doctors.”
“That nurse... Jessica, the one Ceasario had to break up with...” She earned a glare from Adam who cracked his bloodied fingers. “We’ll take him to her. Meet us at the hospital.” She hung up and threw the phone. “Don’t ever put someone’s life at risk like this again!” She shouted up at Adam poking him with her finger as she did.
“I didn’t risk him, I had to take him somewhere!”
“Like I could do anything!”
“Maybe your mother could have, your house was closest!”
“Guys!” Ivan shouted, “he’s passed out and bleeding! Can we argue this later?”
“Fine,” Gemma replied as she took on side, Adam took the other, and Ivan got the doors while trying to maintain pressure. In the car, Ceasario’s head rested on Gemma’s lap. She ran her fingers through his hair while Ivan watched keeping his hands on the wound. “You’ll make it Ceasario... you have to.”
