Night Children [Chapter Seventy Five] Ignored
“Fucking hell,” I muttered. I couldn’t believe it.
I took steps forward, I needed to heal them. I couldn’t believe anyone could get Griever. Sure the sunlight could, but he was like a super hero. No one could hurt him. This proved me wrong. Alana was bleeding from her mouth. Something I’d never seen a Night Child do. Viktor’s quick hand grabbed my arm and yanked me back.
I looked to my mate but he was staring at Bruce, “Markus take Helena and Evan inside.”
“Not a fucking chance,” I said as Markus yelled, “No way!”
I caught movement, and noticed that Seth was sneaking around and was behind a pillar not far from Bruce. I took my eyes off of him hoping I hadn’t given his position away. “Stop fighting us Bruce!” I ordered.
The black smoke didn’t dissipate like I thought it would. He just smirked, “oh love, I was born an elder’s son. Your orders don’t effect me.”
I looked over my shoulder to Markus. “Distract him,” I mouthed, the words hardly breaths from my mouth. He gave a short nod, trusting me wholly. He turned and captured Helena’s mouth passionately, his hair wounding in her hair.
This act set Bruce off, but before he could move Seth had stabbed his sword right through him.
Bruce choked as he looked down, shocked by seeing the tip of the sword through him. He took three quick steps forward getting his body off the sword picked up a nearby bolder with his mind and smashed it into Seth’s side. “SETH!” I cried out as Colleen screamed, I rushed, getting out of Viktor’s grasp. I collapsed to my knees next to his body, which was contorted all wrong. I could tell his bones were broken in his arm, hand, leg, his ribs were pressing into his lung. “Helena, help me.” Markus growled, but Helena rushed over to me, “you have to help him.”
Helena’s hands went white and started to glow as she got to work, “Colleen, get inside.” She looked about to protest, “go!” I looked to my fallen friends, I couldn’t believe this. It couldn’t be happening! My heart hardened and I felt surprisingly calm as I looked down, my hair curtaining my face,“as for you...” I looked up at him with a slight demented turn of the head I smiled, “you’re a fucking dead man.”
Bruce took a step back, he placed a white hand over his stomach and I could tell he healed his wounds quickly. Good. I wanted to tear him apart all by myself.
Markus stood by Helena watching as I sized up my opponent, he was crouched waiting to attack if necessary. “Angel, let Markus and myself handle this,” Viktor said, his voice silky, convincing, and yet to these ears, dull, lifeless. I heard nothing but Bruce’s heartbeat and quite frankly I didn’t want it to stay beating much longer.
“I’ll deal with this Viktor,” I said matching Bruce’s footwork, black poisonous smog clouding my hands as well.
“Angel,” he pleas once more. Still they were words to deaf ears.
“I hear you had a hard time getting into that elders spot,” Bruce tormented.
My mind didn’t want to think of Henry, still it’s where my head went. Tremors of rage swept my body, “shut the fuck up,” I said more calmly than I felt.
“Heard he still had his way with you befo-“ I lunged and punched him with a strong left hook. He backed up a few paces and when he looked back to me I roundhouse kicked him in the face.
Howls of wolves were in the distance of my mind. Bruce looked surprised, and I could imagine the strong wolves behind me. They were suppose to be watching the twins. This made me even angrier.
Bruce wiped blood from his mouth, “you bitch.” I smiled.
I looked to Alana, her body still so... unresponsive. Why wasn’t she getting up yet? I looked to Griever he’d fallen all wrong. His left arm broken, the bone had ripped through the skin. I didn’t know it was possible to break Night Children’s bones.
Breathing in deeply I recalled my training, and Bruce and I returned to our dance of well practised footwork. I smiled as he faltered finally and grabbed his arm twisting it and smashing my palm into the upper arm, smashing the bone and it ripped through muscle and bone. Bruce howled and I let him go, kicking him away giving myself space.
Onlookers were shocked. Staring at the fight going on. Bruce would not win. In fact every injury he caused he was receiving. I hit him with a smooth right hook, the black poison discolouring his jaw. I smiled wickedly. I ducked as he through large stones at me with his mind.
I would have been hit with the pillar, but a wolf jumped in front of it. Whimpering in pain as it hit the ground. The streaks of grey behind the wolves ears identified that it was my father. This made me even angrier. First my friends, now my family. Not a chance.
Focussing I lifted the pillar with my mind blocking the next set of stones, then swinging it at him smashing into his side breaking the bones on his upper body on the one side. Bruce screamed out, but there was white on his body, I could tell he was healing.
I shook my head, “did you think I was going to let you get away with all this carnage?” I asked walking toward him. “Honestly?” My rage ruling I didn’t see the boulder that hit Seth smash into me as well.
My mind went hazy as I laid on the ground. Viktor’s face hovered over me in a second. Still I could hear a continuing fight. “Viktor?”
“I’ve got you love,” he responded.
My eyes widened and my voice raised an octave, “is that Alaric and Adeline?”
His head turned so fast I heard the spinal column snap a few times. “What the hell!”
“Get them out of here!”
“Not with out you!”
“Do it.”
Viktor stared at me angrily then to the children and was off in an instant. They were holding hands walking toward the fight. Where was Lukas and Colleen who should have been watching them!?
I got to my feet shakily, Markus was in a near berserker mode- luckily though, he wasn’t actually a berserker. Bruce was playing it smarter and although injured, was getting the better of my friend.
I was about to join back into the fight, but I had to look back, I had to make sure Viktor had the kids alright.
I was shocked by what I saw. Viktor was in a heap on the ground, no one around him but the twins who were still coming toward the battle. Shock didn’t even begin to cover how I felt at that moment.
“Get back!” I shouted at them.
“Mommy!” Adeline shouted as she and her brother started running forward at the same time.
“No get back inside,” I shouted. I could hear my father’s whimpers, Seth’s heavy breathing, the battle between Bruce and Markus, what seemed to get me was the lack of sound from the others.
I couldn’t let my children be involved in this! No! I had to protect them. My head whipped as I heard a loud smashing sound. Markus had collided with a stone pillar and it had shattered. Markus stopped moving. “Markus!” Helena shouted and nearly got up.
“Stay with Seth!” I shouted at her.
My attention went to my children for another second, they stopped at the side of the stage, they’d grown so much. Size of the average five year old, minus the baby fat. They were like really short teenagers.
“Get back to safety,” I lifted a piece of a pillar and knocked it into Bruce.
“Like this Mommy,” Adeline said lifting her hand a purple smoke swirled around it. Like when she hit Griever’s hand causing even the Night Child agony.
“I can’t do that Adeline.” I spoke softly as I bent down to her.
Alaric whipped by me with speed I didn’t know he had, and obviously got from his father. I turned my head to see him kick Bruce in the knees, as Bruce had been sneaking up behind me with Seth’s sword. Bruce’s knee snapped back the wrong way and he howled in pain.
Adeline touched my head and I suddenly knew just how to get the purple smoke to work. “Alaric, get your sister out of here.” Alaric looked to me with intense eyes filled with determination and perhaps some rebellion. He looked to Adeline who had been staring at me with hazy eyes, she nodded and Alaric jumped from the stage.
I bent down to Bruce, my hands swirling with purple haze. “Be glad they aren’t dead.”
“Really?” He said with a blood laced smirk. “So sure about that?”
I punched with all my might, but the purple smoke had become interlaced with a acid green. My fist bore into his torso slowly, he screamed, howled, thrashed, bled, and yelled out pleas in the end. My fist stopped as it hit the floor on the other side of his body.
My mind raced as I sat there, on my knees. I slowly removed my fist from the corpse. People were staring and I felt nauseous, I swallowed back bile and rose to my feet. I wobbled but was caught by strong hands. Turning I saw it was Viktor, the twins holding hands behind him. He looked at my face and gave a sad smile, “oh, honey, it’s okay.”
His hands on my face and his thumbs wiped away tears I hadn’t realized I shed. “I-I is...everyone...”
I turned and saw that Adeline was working on Alana. I knelt down beside Douglas and he awoke under my hands quickly. Soul Child’s poison is relatively easy to cure. He went to help Griever, I knelt by my father and started to work on his injuries when he moved away with me and nosed me toward Markus. “Dad...”
He barked at me, John Cross never had, and I doubt ever will, let go of his damned pride. I knew he would heal up on his own in time, still I hated to see him this way.
Of course, I listened to my father though. Just like I always had.
I bent down beside Markus, Helena knelt down beside me and placed her hands on his body, “Seth is bruised, but he’s okay now... just tired.”
“Thank you,” I whispered, “I know how hard it was for you to stay with him when Markus was injured.” Helena said nothing and we worked in silence till Markus finally opened one of his purple blotched eyes.
“Hey you,” he whispered groggily giving a smile to Helena. I got up and left them alone.
Alana sat up, her head kind of rolling on her shoulders like it was to heavy for her neck to support. “What the heck happened,” she murmured looking around at everyone, but here eyes froze on Griever, she shuffled on her hands and knees, crawling to the man she loved. “Baby wake up.”
She looked up at Douglas who’s eyes were wide set and worried.
“Douglas?” I questioned.
He looked to Alana, “I’m sorry.”
“No, no, no,” Alana’s pleas were the only thing I heard, my legs felt like Jello and I felt Viktor steady me. “Griever,” Alana grabbed his shoulders and shook him viciously. “Griever, please baby,” her words were giving way to sobs, “you just got to get up.”
Still his body stayed motionless.
It seemed today, the gods were ignoring us.
“Fucking hell,” I muttered. I couldn’t believe it.
