Boot Camp For Terribly Twisted Teens [Chapter 47] Grief
“You really think Hiro can survive his injuries?” Robyn asked Hawkeye as they stood in the kitchen waiting for the coffee machine to finish.
“Do you think Thayne can?” He asked her, there was a patch of hair shaved from when the doctor had taken out her chip. White bandages swirled around her head.
Robyn shrugged, “he seemed okay... you know, even with it in.”
“But when they take it out...”
“I know, it’s dangerous,” Robyn responded as she stared at the coffee slowly dripping. “But for the first time in my life, I need to be optimistic. I’ve always been a mix of a realist and a pessimist. Being prepared for what was likely to happen but now... I need to believe everything is going to be okay.” Tears started to swell and she blinked quickly.
“I miss her too,” Hawkeye whispered and Robyn collided with his chest quickly nearly knocking him off balance. She held him tightly and he wrapped his arms around her. “Shhh, it’s going to be okay Robyn, it’s going to be okay...” as much as he didn’t truly believe what he was saying, it sure did make him feel better.

“How are you feeling?”
Scott turned around and seen Rick standing there. “Terrified,” he said straight faced before turning back around and grabbing two beers from the fridge. He walked over to Rick and handed him one. Rick accepted it and they both popped the top as they walked toward the stairs. “There are still Kennedy people out there. They are going to want revenge for this.” Scott chugged the beer bottle and placed it on a table. “Something was in my head and I’m terrified that it could happen again.”
“I think we’re all terrified, or just too numb to be terrified.” Rick responded. “I can’t see anyone’s future,” he whispered. “I don’t know why.”
“You know how people say the mind protects you from things. Hides things, makes you forget things... maybe you are still seeing futures, but your mind realizes you can’t handle all the carnage, doesn’t want to think about the deaths and destructions and decides to make you forget.”
“Makes sense. To know Claire was going to die... that Hiro...”
“I was there,” Scott interjected, “please save me from reliving it.”
Rick nodded, “sorry.”
“Don’t be.” Scott responded and they both took a seat in one of the living rooms. “There is no proper course one should take when the shit hits the fan like this.”
“I’ve always been confident, assured how things would end,” Rick said softly. “It’s driving me nuts to have to wait.”
“Now you know how the rest of us feel all the damn time,” Scott replied and they both laughed somewhat, half heartedly.

“I’m sorry,” Tori whispered and Daniel turned around. He’d been waiting there at the doorway for many hours. Unable to step in, but unable to walk away. “I shouldn’t have flipped on you like that earlier. I know how much Claire means to you, how you’d do anything to protect her... don’t you think Nick would do the same? Do you really think he’d hurt Claire?”
Daniel’s head dipped. “This wasn’t a life I imagined. I didn’t imagine my own life very much at all. When I was in my coma... all I did was watch over Claire, I knew she was in danger, her third eye seeing too much, Cory was simple, but Claire was self destructive after what happened to me. I had to watch over her, make sure she was as safe as I could make her. And being back in my body...” Daniel sighed. “I still want her to be safe, I still imagine her with long blonde hair, a beautiful face smiling, a kid who loved to dance. She grew up fast in the past months. I... wasn’t expecting it.”
“Really?” Tori asked. “If you were watching over her, you know she’s had boyfriends before.”
“I tried not to be there for those parts.” Daniel responded. “And I mean, she didn’t take any of them seriously, dancing, shopping, making out and she was bored of them. On to the next one. And I expected Nick to watch over her, not... not this.”
“Claire isn’t a little girl anymore Danny,” Tori said touching his arm lightly. “She...”
“She isn’t alive anymore Tori.”
The two stared at each other, the words hung heavily in the air.

“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I’m sure,” Nina responded and Allen sighed. “He’s in here.” Allen opened the door for her. And she stepped in the door shutting quietly behind her.
She walked up to the bedside and looked down at his strikingly handsome face. “Hey Thayne.” She grabbed his hand and held it as she sat down on the chair. “It’s scary out there. I wish the sedation had kept me under longer. The real world... it sucks now.” Nina started crying as she hunched over his bed crying on his arm. “Claire is go-gone, Hiro’s real bad, they won’t let me see him... Lily won’t let Claire go, refuses. Just cries and holds her. Its absolutely devastating. Nick hasn’t woken up, and Liam is there with him, all furious, he’s scary like this. I don’t think Cory understands what is going on. Or he’s to numb about it.” Breathing heavily as she sobbed she tightened her grasp on his hand. “I tried to take care of Claire, and now she’s dead... I should have done something. Something could have been done to prevent this. I... I should have been able to save her.”
“Don’t cry.” Nina looked up as Thayne touched the back of her head. “Don’t cry Nina, there was nothing you or any of us can do. You can only dodge the bullet so many times.”
Nina shook her head and sobbed harder. “There had to have been something! Something!”
Thayne pulled the blanket on Nina’s side back and she climbed up next to him crying against his chest as he rubbed her back. “You’ll get through this, we all will.”
