Boot Camp For Terribly Twisted Teens [Chapter 38] Meet You on the Other Side
Caitlyn Parker grabbed hold of the door frame to steady herself, she stared at me, “how do you know?”
I looked over to Nick, who continued to be no help to me. I took a deep breath. “I can speak to the dead,” I said quickly, “please believe me.”
Caitlyn crossed herself before looking outside the door both ways, “get in here you two.”
We followed her into the house, the scent of vanilla incense bombarded me. “I can’t believe you are so quick to believe me.”
She turned on her heal and looked furious, “were you followed?”
“Excuse me?”
Caitlyn grabbed my arms hard, I hissed and tried jerking away with no avail. “Were you followed?”
“Let go of me!” I shouted and she was knocked back by shadows that I had subconsciously summoned to my aid. She stumbled back and stared. “I’m sorry.”
“Were you followed?” She asked sternly.
“No, I don’t think so.”
“Well which is it?” Caitlyn asked crossing her arms over her chest. This wasn’t exactly what I thought this meeting would be like.
“No we weren’t.” Nick finally spoke up.
“Are you with Kennedy?”
I turned to Nick and he looked at me then we both turned back to Caitlyn. “No, we’re definitely against Kennedy,” I responded.
“So you’re with the Carlin Institute?”
My eyebrows narrowed, “no, well, maybe? My mother is.”
“A necromancer at your stages should be.” Caitlyn said walking into the kitchen, Nick and I followed and she put on a pot of tea. “You would be a great asset to them.” She busied her self getting cups, “and what is it you do young man?”
“How do you know about all of this stuff?” Nick asked ignoring her question. “About Kennedy and the Carlin institute?”
Caitlyn sighed, “the Carlin Institute broke me out of the Kennedy Labs.” She poured hot tea for each of us and we all took a seat at the kitchen table. “They wanted me to help them, but... I was young, foolish,” she smiled, “in love.” Sighing she continued, “I wanted the normalcy. Angelo was a soldier and was deployed when I was kidnapped. When Carlin Institute broke me out, I refused to work for them, came back to our apartment and waited. Waited for him to come home... but he never did.”
I grabbed the small velvet box. “He wanted me to give you this.” I slid it across the table and tears welled in her eyes.
She picked it up tenderly and opened it. “Damn it Angelo,” she cried. Pulling out the ring I could see the base was white gold, there were three diamonds shining still. “I don’t understand why he wouldn’t have come around me.”
“He was in the middle of nowhere,” I offered. “He might not have been able to find you.” I stared for a moment, “you’re a necromancer too aren’t you?” Her knowledge seemed to signify it.
Caitlyn nodded, “not to your degree. I can send people on, I’m a lower classification.” She put the ring on her finger and studied it.
“I wonder if you could help me then.” She looked up. “Please, my brother, he’s been in a coma. His spirit sticks around me... but I don’t know how to put a soul back into it’s body.”
Caitlyn looked at me and smiled sadly. “You brought me closure, I’ve been going out of my mind, waiting another year, another month, another day for Angelo so afraid to leave in case he finally came back.”
“I would have if I could.” I turned and seen Angelo at my side he stepped toward Caitlyn who’s wide eyes followed his movements. “You can see me?”
“Yes.”
Nick looked confused and I whispered that I would explain later.
“I love you, so much,” Angelo said getting onto his knees. “I wish I could have come home to you.”
Caitlyn smiled sadly. “Angelo, it’s time for you to go on.”
“Had I proposed,” Angelo spoke quietly.
“Yes.” Catilyn cut him off, “I would have said yes.”
Angelo smiled. “Meet you on the other side.”
Caitlyn reached out and touched his face, Angelo grew brighter till I had to look away, when I opened my eyes again he was gone. “What are your names?”
“I’m Claire, this is Nick.”
“Thank you for bringing Angelo back to me, one last time.” She looked at me, “and to show you my gratitude, I’ll help you with your brother.”
