Boot Camp For Terribly Twisted Teens [Chapter 35] Marina
“I’m hungry,” Anna whispered as she followed behind Mary, it had nearly been a week since they disbanded from the rest of the group.
“Stop complaining,” Mary responded looking forward on the road, there wasn’t anyone, or anything in sight. “You’re simply going to have to wait.”
“We shouldn’t have left them...” Anna whispered, “I wonder if Claire is okay...”
“Shut up about her! About all of them!” Mary yelled back and it echoed in the distance.
“They were our friends!” Anna argued.
“Then why didn’t you stay with them?”
“I can’t believe you would even ask that,” Anna replied sharply as she passed her sister and continued down the dirt road. “You’re my sister, my twin, my other half. I can’t leave you.”
Mary stayed silent and Anna followed in suit. Their silence brought them over two miles before there was a gas station in sight. “We have no money,” Mary said slowly.
“We’ll just have to steal stuff,” Anna replied.
“What happened to being miss-goodie-goodie-two-shoes?”
“Overrated,” Anna replied dryly. “Being good doesn’t ensure survival.”
They were quiet again for a while before Mary broke the silence, “I feel bad you know. About Claire... things just got out of hand. I didn’t mean...”
“I know you didn’t.”
“I’ve got a dark side,” Mary said trying to make a joke of it, but neither girl laughed. There was to much truth in the matter.
They walked into the store and Mary and Anna split up immediately so the clerk, (one that was reading the tabloids and not paying much attention anyway) would have difficulty watching both of them. The stuffed their pockets with food. Mary shoved a water bottle down her sweater. They walked out and the clerk was none the wiser.
Biting into a stolen sandwich Anna chewed as she mulled over her thoughts. “Mary... is this what we’re going to be reduced to?”
Mary didn’t respond, she didn’t need to. Both girls knew the answer.

Rick sat up suddenly and looked around. Disappointed he was still in the cave he laid back down. At his side he seen Claire was now sitting up. “It’s fucking cold,” she whispered through chattering teeth. Rick couldn’t agree more. Winter was coming and they needed to get somewhere else. Anywhere else. “You were possessed by my mother?” Claire asked.
“No, but someone broke into my mind with your mother,” Rick responded while looking around. “Where is Hawk?”
“Out trying to find something to eat.”
“That isn’t going to go well.”
“I know,” Claire responded sadly. Her stomach rumbled noisily. “So someone broke into your mind... what was it like?”
“Strange, painful,” Rick responded. “I think though your mother... she’s looking for us and is more well connected than we could have expected.”
“Hard to believe,” Claire whispered.
“When my mind was open to whoever... I caught glimpses of the other persons memories. Beeping monitors, a woman who looked like an older you, ‘Carlin Institute.’ Any of that ring a bell?”
“Mom looks like an older me.”
“I figured as much. One thing explained.”
“Maybe my mom was transferred to this ‘Carlin Institute.’”
“You know where it is?”
“If we can get access to a computer we could just google it.”
Rick nodded as Hawkeye came in empty handed and sat down by the fire rubbing his hands together. “We need to get out of here.”
That was something the could all agree on, they sat around the fire and tried to decided where they should go. They decided to take the boat which they quickly pulled off sticks they had hid it with and pushed it back in the water. They would get to the Marina near town and could walk to the internet café and find where the ‘Carlin Institute’ is.” The boat powered toward the nearest town.

“Who are you people?” Joshua yelled, “Get out of my house!”
A tranquillizer hit him and he fell, Lily stepped in front of her son. “Get out!”
Nick couldn’t believe his eyes. There they were, Leon who he quickly looked away from, Thayne, J.C, Hiro along with a blonde girl and another girl with short brown hair just as Liam had described before.
Ice coated the floor around Liams feet and around the Kennedy worker and the others before the ice shot up and created a thick ice cage. “We need to go!”
“What about Mr. Keeds?” Nick asked.
“Leave him,” Lily responded, “he isn’t gifted, they won’t do anything with him!”
Cory lead the way with his intense speed and got in the van. Liam, Nick and Lily following behind. Nick drove like a madman getting away. “Where do we go now?” Nick asked turning to Lily in the passengers seat.
Her phone rang and she put up a hand as she listened hanging up she turned to Nick, “the Marina, Claire, and the others are headed there.”

“What do we do?” Anna asked again to Mary as they walked along the dirt road.
“Uncle John has that boat down at the Marina,” Mary responded.
Anna sighed, “that was years ago.”
“Well we can’t go home,” Mary responded harshly. “At least it has heat.”
Anna couldn’t argue with that, she rubbed her hands together before shoving them back into the pockets of her sweater. “To Uncle John’s boat it is.”

Claire’s burns were throbbing but she kept quiet despite the pain. The cold wasn’t helping any. Hawkeye had offered her his sweater, it was ripped from creating a rag in which to clean her wounds, she couldn’t take the one thing that was till kind of keeping him warm and declined. Rick was sitting beside her, they huddled together trying to keep warm while Hawkeye drove the boat.
Rick stiffened momentarily, Claire looked up at him and he spoke after a minute, “we’re going to have some pleasant company at the Marina.”
Docking the boat and stepping onto the slippery dock Hawkeye steadied Claire. The three of them walked forward and through the fog could make out figures. “Claire?”
“Mom!” Claire ignored her protesting body as she latched herself to her mother, “Cory?”
Cory smiled sadly up at her, “your face.”
“Thanks,” Claire responded starkly.
After a few seconds Cory slowly hugged his sister. “I’ve missed you.”
Tears swelled in Claire’s eyes, “I’ve missed you too.”
Looking past her family, Claire was surprised, “Liam?”
“I was shocked to hear you had a gift too,” he responded, “we’ll talk about it later.”
“What are you all doing here?” Everyone turned to see Anna and Mary.
Nick glared at Mary angrily, but couldn’t muster the same hatred toward the other young woman. Anna smiled, “it’s good to see you are all okay.”
“Not all of us,” Claire responded sharply as she got into Mary’s face.
“I’m sorry,” Mary whispered, “things got out of hand.”
“We need to get out of here,” Lily said. “We can fight and catch up later, we need to get out of here and back to the institute.”
“The institute?” Coursed Mary, Anna, Claire and Hawkeye.
“It’s going to be a crappy drive in shitty weather,” Rick responded, “lets get going.”
