Boot Camp For Terribly Twisted Teens [Chapter 33] Carlin Institute
Nick drove the car up to the gate of the Carlin Institute and pressed the buzzer on the speaker. “Welcome to the Carlin Institute, to talk admissions press one. To talk to the director, press two.”
Nick shrugged at Liam, “what do we do?”
“Talk to admissions?”
“Press in your password.”
Nick looked over to the box. “A secret option, most would have pressed something by now, or left.”
“How are you going to guess the password?” Liam asked.
“Button mashing,” Nick responded as he reached out and started punching in numbers.
“I’m sorry, your password is incorrect, please try again.”
Nick kept trying, and kept failing. “This isn’t going to work,” Liam said after a while.
“It might,” Nick replied.
“We’ve got company,” Liam said sitting straight up in his seat as a guard approached.
“Can I help you?” The guard asked after coming through the now open gate.
Nick smiled, “you just did.” He floored it and drove quickly up to the front door, the guard chasing. Nick and Liam both jumped out of the vehicle and ran up the stairs to the door and grabbed the door knob.
“This could end badly,” Liam said.
“I know,” Nick responded busting in. The interior was elaborate, beautifully decorated and most defiantly not an asylum. Nick stopped and looked around, the place was huge, there was no way they were going to find Claire’s mother.
“Who are you?” A lady asked looking regal in a red dress, her long dark locks held up in a clasp.
“Nick Greene,” Nick introduced, “this is my cousin Liam Matheson. I need your help.”
“Sorry Janet,” the guard said coming in, “these little pricks got back me.
“Don’t worry, they mean no harm,” Janet replied. “You’re both gifted.”
Nick and Liam looked to each other and shrugged, “yes we are.”
“I know, fire and ice working together,” Janet said as she turned and headed to the sitting room, “follow.” The boys followed Janet and took seats, the guard followed as well and stood in the doorway rather menacingly.
“I’m guessing since you know what we can do, you also know why we are here,” Nick spoke softly.
“I do, you’re looking for a woman with the last name of Keeds.”
“Her first name is Lily,” Nick said.
“Oh I know her first name,” Janet said with a hint of laughter ringing in her voice.
“Please, you have to help us.”
“I know, Nick. And I have every intention of helping you.”
“You do?”
Janet nodded, “I’ve seen into your mind. I’ve seen what those people have done from your eyes. Your escape and your friends and their recapture.” Janet crossed her arms over her chest. “Lily isn’t here right now, she’s out trying to help others like us.” She turned to the doorway, “Grant, please go call Lily’s cell phone.” The guard nodded and left the room. “The Kennedy group. We’ve been trying to stop them for years, but since the development of the chip... they are more organised, have more numbers, and have been kidnapping our members and implanting them with those chips.”
“Can the chips be taken out?” Liam asked.
Janet shrugged, “we believe they can be, but with some people it might be a higher risk. We aren’t sure since we haven’t tried.”
“She says she’s only twenty minutes out, she was already on her way back,” Grant said as he re-entered the room.
They waited and when Lily came in Nick smiled, “hello Mrs Keeds.”
Lily gave a sad smile, “hello Nick.”
“Lily,” Janet said standing, “I’m sure you three have some catching up to do.”
Nodding Lily entered the room as Janet and Grant left it. She sat down with the two young men. “I didn’t think I’d be seeing you two again...”
“We need you help.”
“You’ll be able to stay here,” Lily said, “everyone with a gift is safe here.”
“We don’t want to stay,” Nick interjected. “We need your help to get our friends out of the Kennedy labs.”
“Kennedy,” Lily whispered, “those bastards.”
“Your husband sent your daughter there,” Liam said.
Lily gasped, “he did what!”
“Have you not spoke to anyone in your family?” Nick asked.
Lily shook her head, “too dangerous. I felt like I had to help others like me. I mean, I would have gone mad without the Carlin Institute to tell me I wasn’t insane, that I was just someone with a gift.” Lily played with the hem of her shirt as she spoke, “I didn’t want my family getting hurt by someone who just wanted to get to me.”
Nick filled Lily in on everything from Claire waking him up in the lab, to talking to Cory.
“Claire is safe?”
“She’s burnt extensively, she needs a doctor.”
“We have one here...”
“We don’t know where she is though.” Nick said, “we only know that she is with Hawkeye and Rick.”
“We need to find them... before the Kennedy people do.”
