Boot Camp For Terribly Twisted Teens [Chapter 31] Fire and Ice
They all turned, following Nick’s direction. A truck came roaring down the road and parked sideways blocking their only exit. Men dressed in soldier attire, carrying large guns jumped out. “Oh shit,” Hawkeye whispered. Men jumped out of the woods, probably having already arrived by boat.
“Take her,” Thayne said, handing Claire off to Hawkeye. Thayne held her up better, but he was also gifted with a power to take out people, while Hawkeye just had insanely good vision. Thayne’s hands balled into fists.
Nick’s hands became engulfed in flame.
Scott, Rick and Hawkeye still holding Claire stood behind the Enclave for safety. None of them were exactly battle gifted.
J.C and Leon were looking for an opportunity to use their powers.
J.C just waiting for one of them to get close enough.
Leon trying desperately to make eye contact.
Hiro was watching them carefully studying their outfits, he just needed a chance to change and blend.
The men started to take aim, and Thayne charged like a bull. He took three of the tranquillizer darts to his chest and kept moving grabbing one of the men but the front of his vest and throwing him quite the ways into a tree which cracked at the force in which the body was thrown.
The other men all started focussing in Thayne, Hiro changed his body and to match those of the soldiers easily sneaking among them and grabbing a rock and bashing it into the back of one of their heads. Another soldier turned quickly and shot him with the tranquiller gun, Hiro fell back and his facade dropped before he hit the ground unconscious.
Nick rushed forward his hands burning and before long, his entire body was up in flames. He grabbed onto one of the men who quickly caught fire, screaming. The air was filled with the scent of burning flesh. Another one of the soldiers shot Nick in the neck, the fire smoldered and he fell.
“We need to get out of here,” Rick spoke quietly.
“The boat,” Hawkeye suggested, “preferably their fast one.”
“What about the others?” Scott asked.
“We can’t help them if we are captured too,” Hawkeye said grunting as he adjusted Claire in his arms. He turned to look at Scott and noticed he was exceptionally pale, or paler than usual, “Scott?”
Scott stared into the window, his reflection staring back at him. His face was melting. “You guys go on ahead,” Scott whispered.
“What is it?” Rick asked he couldn’t see Scott’s future despite his attempts.
“Just go, before they catch you guys,” Scott whispered angrily. “Just go.”
Hawkeye turned to leave, they couldn’t try arguing with him. It would just get them all captured. He darted off with Claire in his arms while Rick guided them already knowing where the tranquillizers would be shot. The quickly into the boat and started it up backing out they watched as Thayne finally fell from the tranquillizers.
Scott couldn’t help but stare into the window, his reflection mimicking the melt of hundreds of other dying people he’d seen. It was in the glass that he seen her, blonde and deadly. “Somehow, I should have guessed,” Scott whispered. He felt her hands around his neck as she hauled him off his feet and threw him. His back smashed into a boulder.
“See, these children are incredible.”
“That they are, better fighters than your soldiers.”
“They are just unpredictable like this, but once the chip is in, we are in complete control.”
“What if they aren’t in complete control of their gifts?”
“Then they will be, whatever we say, they do.”
“Then they would be quite an unstoppable force?”
“Absolutely.”
“Perfect.”
The two men returned to their car parked a few back from the soldier’s, and behind the transporting unit. The soldiers were carrying back the bodies. “We have some missing!” One of the soldiers announced.
“What?”
“That burning guy, he’s gone! You said there were more kids, but we didn’t capture as many as you said we should.”
“Find them, hunt them down if you have to. Monitor hospitals, and scan police radios. We have to find these kids and if they go for help, make sure they don’t get it.”
Unseen to anyone was a trail of ice that was slowly melting away.

Nick awoke much later, his mouth was dry. Sitting up he realized he was naked, but covered with a blanket. He didn’t recognize the room, but it wasn’t a lab which surprised him. Stepping out of bed, he wondered what happened. Had anyone escaped. Had the rest of the soldiers gotten knocked out. Had they gotten away but he had been unconscious? That had to be it, if he’d been taken by the Kennedy people, he surely would be chained to a lab table.
He walked over to the drawers which were stalked with new clothing with price tags still on. Dressing in a light grey sweater and jeans quickly he went to the door and still half expected it to be locked, but turned easily. He looked down the hall. It was still unfamiliar, but there was a scent of toast and bacon, he happily followed his nose, his stomach growling in excitement.
Flipping spitting bacon was a familiar head of blonde hair. “Liam?”
Liam looked over his shoulder. “I was starting to think you weren’t going to wake up.”
Nick rubbed his head, “how long was I out for?”
Swearing as he was hit with flying bacon grease, Liam reached over to the back of the stove and turned off the burner, “about a day and a half.”
“Holy shit,” Nick commented, “how did you find me?”
“Took a boat to Gramps cabin with my savings,” Liam responded, “that’s when I seen those men, and the guns. They got you with one of those darts, but I dragged you off when no one was looking.”
Nick rubbed a slight beard that was growing in, he couldn’t recall when he shaved last. “What happened to everyone else?”
“I seen some of them get on those soldiers’s boat,” Liam responded opening and closing cabinets till he found a plate and scooped some of the bacon on to it. “Others those men got a hold of.”
“How the heck did you drag me so far?” Nick asked finally accepting a plate once Liam had topped it with scrambled eggs and slightly burnt toast, “and where are we anyways?” Nick took a large bite of toast, even plane it tasted delicious, he tried savouring, but ended up eating ravenously.
Liam started a plate for himself, “someone rich guys cottage, you aren’t going to go and put B and E on my record right?” Nick shook his head and smiled sadly. This was what these people had resorted them too. Hiding in houses they broke in to.
“You still didn’t explain how you dragged me so far,” Nick said with a mouthful of eggs.
Liam grabbed the frying pan and Nick watched. After a few seconds the handle started to get a layer of frost, it grew outward and over the entire pan before becoming a thick ice. “Deep freeze, less of dragging, more of sliding you along and hoping you didn’t get frost bite.”
“Huh,” Nick responded before taking a bite of bacon. “Tell me, did you see Claire?”
Liam shook his head, “no sorry.”
Nick frowned and stared down at his plate as he ate, before he realized something. “She had black hair now, we were trying to hide ourselves.”
“Well that explains your hair,” Liam muttered, nearly everyone in their family was blonde. Nick was naturally of course, but Liam thought he looked a little silly with such dark hair. Liam thought hard for a moment, “it all happened so fast.”
“I know,” Nick said. He wondered what would happen to those caught? He had to help them, but how?
“Wait... was she unconscious?”
“Yes!”
“Then yes, some guy was carrying her to the boat.”
“Could you describe them.”
Liam narrowed his eyes, but described them vaguely which was the best he could do.
“Sounds like Hawkeye and Rick are with Claire then.”
“I can’t believe Claire is in on this...”
“She’s got a gift like we do, like they all do.”
“They are going to implant chips.”
“I know.”
“They will probably be sold off to power hungry people.”
“I’m aware Liam,” Nick responded wearily. “So everyone else was taken by them...”
“Kind of,” Liam whispered, and with a inquisitive look from his cousin, he continued. “One... one looked... dead. I think his back was broken.” Nick swore. “Did they already get some of your group?”
“What do you mean?” Nick asked taking his last bite of bacon a little angrily.
“Two girls, they were with the soldiers, I seen them. Probably the chip.”
Nick rubbed his chin, “we lost the twins not so long ago, had a falling out... that’s putting it mildly.”
“They weren’t twins,” Liam elaborated, “one was blonde, and the other one had really short dark brown hair, I thought she was a boy at first...”
“Claire and Leon had it out about an illusion of a girl with dark brown hair...” Nick recalled. “Maybe they lost two before I joined them.”
“I guess,” Liam said taking the last bite of toast and tossing the plate in the sink. “What do we do now?”
Nick stayed quiet for a long moment thinking. “Maybe it’s time we went and seen Claire’s mom?”
“Isn’t she...” Liam twirled a finger by his head, “coo-coo.”
“She claimed to see dead people,” Nick argued, “which is what Claire can do. What if Claire’s mother... really can see dead people and just couldn’t deal with it.”
“So she went nuts because of her gift.”
Nick shrugged, “I remember before she started seeing them, stable and bright. Maybe if she knows Claire is in danger she’ll help us.”
“But, I thought that she had to stay in the asylum.”
“She did for assessment,” Nick replied, “Daniel once told me, his mother was free to come home anytime, she was stable, but she was there of her own will.”
Liam went into the closet and grabbed a jacket, one that Nick was quite sure didn’t belong to him, “so, lets go hot wire a car... wait... Claire and her mother both had gifts?” Nick nodded. “And we are in the same family, and we have gifts... what if it’s hereditary?”
Nick shrugged, “what difference does it make.”
“Doesn’t Claire also have a little brother?”
