Boot Camp For Terribly Twisted Teens [Chapter 24] No Batteries Required
I quickly worked on Rick’s locks while he was screaming at us to leave. Nina was pushing the air around the room with such force I could hardly stand straight and was hovering close to Rick’s body over the slab.
“Someone try talking to her!” I shouted over the wind whistling over my ears giving me a headache.
“Robyn, calm down, it’s me! Nina!” Nina had her eyes wide open, a snarl on her face as she was exhausting herself pushing Robyn back with the air in the room, making the rest of us a little lightheaded.
Robyn started moving forward a bit and Thayne pushed a heavy cart toward her but she stopped it by smashing both arms down and destroying it to rubble. “Fucking hell,” his whispered voice almost completely lost in the wind.
Finally freeing Rick he wrapped the sheet around his waist, “everyone out now!”
“We can’t leave her here!” I argued.
“We leave her or we all stay here,” Scott said quickly grabbing my arm and pulling me toward the door.
I turned though Rick and Scott each had an arm, some people already took their leave, others following behind. “Nina!” I shouted over the wind, “come on!”
“I can’t!” Nina shouted back.
I ripped my arms from the boys almost falling on my but, I recovered quickly but Thayne grabbed me around the waist, “Nina!” I shouted reaching toward her, kicking and screaming.
“She’s the only family I have, and we aren’t even related,” Nina responded with humourless laughter. “I won’t leave her, and I don’t expect you to stay, now go!”
“Nina, no! Nina!” I screamed out crying unable to stop the flood of emotions, the tears that spilled down my face. Fed up Thayne picked me off my feet and walked backward out the door which the twins closed behind us. “Let me go!” I shouted still kicking and screaming.
“Claire, stop,” Thayne said struggling to hold on to me, and not squish my squirming body.
“We have to get her out of there!” I shouted, I had the dire need to protect Nina, she’d been taking care of me since I had arrived at that hell-hole of a boot camp, “Robyn could kill her!”
Suddenly blood splashed over the window and I stopped struggling. Thayne slowly lowered me to my feet. Everyone just stared. More loud noises, things being destroyed in Robyn’s brainless rampage.
A hand grabbed under my elbow, but I didn’t look over, my knees were shaking and I felt like I could fall over at any moment.
“There is a guard doing security check,” Rick said quietly after a moment. “We shouldn’t be here when he gets around.”
“Which way is he coming?” Scott asked after a long moment.
“Our right,” Rick responded, “we need to get out of here now. It might be our only chance.”
I looked over and noticed it was Leon supporting me, I looked into his mismatched eyes, “we can’t just leave her,” I said slowly hoping he’d back me up.
The door opened and Nina stepped out slowly. “Nina!”
I went to hug her but she put her hand up, “there isn’t anything that doesn’t hurt right now.”
“You okay?”
“Yeah...” she shut the door behind her. “Lets go.”
“What about Robyn.”
“She’s... gone,” Nina responded walking to the left of us.
We all followed in suit, “better hurry,” Rick said, “the guard is closer than I thought he was.” We all started sprinting toward the turn, we quickly made it around the corner and out of the guards line of sight.
“There is another one coming from that way, “Hawkeye said in a panicked voice.”
I used the shadows to pick the lock of another room and we all ducked inside and shut the door carefully as to make the least amount of noise possible. There was only one body in this small room. I couldn’t help but feel compelled to take a step forward. Thayne had busted into a file cabinet and was flipping through seeming to be looking for his own. Rick was sitting calmly by the door, Hawkeye forcing himself to look through walls. Everyone else was either leaning against something, looking through cabinets or trying to cope with what was happening.
Straight short blond hair was all I could make out, the sheet covered most of the face. The IV drip was into an arm and I pulled it out. I didn’t want anyone to go through what I did. I pulled back the sheet, “Nick!”Everyone turned to look at me, but I hardly noticed. I shook him lightly, trying to wake him, but I knew the drug was still keeping him cloudy.
“You know this guy?” Thayne asked as he started busting the shackles.
“He... he was one of my brother’s best friends. He’s a cop!” I turned to him, “these people... it’s one thing to take teens that are disturbed, that families don’t care about! But I know Nick’s mom, I use to do her flowerbeds for a summer job, he was always around with my brother! He’s a cop, a respected one, the entire force must be looking for him!”
“Which means that they must have gone through great lengths to get him,” Anna said with a yawn that was shared with Mary.
Mary finished yawning, “that and whatever he can do must be something they really want.”
Nick’s eyes were moving under his heavy lids, “Nick! It’s me, it’s-“
“Claire?”
“Yeah,” I whispered, he started sitting up slowly and I put my hand on his back helping him up. He looked around, spotting teenagers, the medical equipment. “What the hell?” He rubbed his temples, “where am I?”
“We don’t know,” Leon said, “we woke up here after being tranquillized at Kennedy Boot Camp and woke up here.”
Nick looked to me, “you okay kid?”
I nodded, “no damage done.” I turned around as he stood wrapping the sheet around himself. We must have looked like a pitiful bunch. All of us wrapped in white sheets, a horrible toga party, terrible ghost costumes... the list could go on. Point blank, we looked ridiculous and if we were going to escape we were going to need clothing that was going to stay on, not running through... where ever we are with white sheets billowing behind us. Kind of a give away. “We need to find some clothing.”
“I’ll second that one,” Scott muttered, I turned to look at him, despite how lanky he was, he had a toned body which I noticed at first glance, at second I noticed he was glaring quite heatedly at Leon. Looking around, a few of them were.
I turned to Nick, “what happened to you?”
“Had to go for a physical for the force, make sure everything is up to snuff,” he said. “They did their stuff then told me to just lay down, they would be back in a moment with the results... then nothing...”
“Something in the air probably,” Leon hypothesised.
“Good possibility, probably told the force they founds something serious and I would be emitted into treatment immediately.” Nick walked over to the windows, or what would have been windows if they didn’t have steel over them with a padlock. “Beautiful,” he muttered.
Thayne walked over put his hand around it and squeezed, the metal became little chips and dust that fell to the floor, “no problem-o,” he said with a grin before pulling open the one side of the steel shutters and Nick pulled on the other side. We were greeted by darkness, by forest and trees.
We all walked over and looked out, “these people sure do like the far out places where no one can hear you scream,” Hiro noted, “think Jason is out there?” He asked with a nervous laughter trying to lighten the mood. No one laughed.
“We need to get out there,” Rick said, “they are going to be checking rooms soon.”
“Do we find clothing?” I asked him.
Rick shrugged, “it doesn’t work that way, we haven’t decided what rooms to check so I can’t know.”
“I could take a quick look around,” Hiro said as he started shifting into a generic security guard look, his sheet falling to the ground, but we saw a completely different person, taller, balding, older, guard suit with a tie and even a mustard stain.
“Do it,” Rick said, “running through those woods would be a bitch in these,” he said waving a majestic hand at the sheets.
Hiro’s plan worked, he came back with a cart full of clothing that he got from the first floor laundry room. The clothing wasn’t ours, of course it wouldn’t be that easy. I got into a pair of pants that were slightly to small for me in the legs, but I rolled them up making capris out of them. The shirt was a mans and black with a collar.
Everyone else looked just as awkward in their clothing choices as I did. Some in floods, since it was better than wearing them too long and have to trip over them, shirts oversized, or to small. I looked down at my feet, “any shoes?”
“Didn’t find any,” Hiro responded, “sorry.”
“S’okay.”
We ended up ripping up the sheets and wrapping them around our feet, securing them with elastic bands to keep them in place. “Any lighters? I’m sure we wouldn’t be so lucky as to have a flashlight in this room,” J.C muttered as she rifled through the drawers.
Everyone turned to start looking for a light source while Nick seemed nervous. “Nick, you okay?” I whispered.
“Fine.”
I looked up at him, “you... you’re like us,” I said, realizing he had no idea what the rest of us could do. He peered down at me inquisitively. “You can do something... strange... special.” He stayed silent. “I can see dead people,” I offered, “can control shadows. They can all do something too, I think it’s why were sent to Kennedy.”
Nick smiled lightly, “forget lighters,” he said his voice normal instead of the whisper I had been holding the conversation at. Everyone turned and he had his hand closed and when he opened it flames were licking his hand. “I got the light situation covered, and I don’t even need batteries.”
“What are we waiting for then!” Hawkeye said.
Thayne opened the window and we all started to crawl out one by one and started to run into the forest following Nick’s light.
I quickly worked on Rick’s locks while he was screaming at us to leave. Nina was pushing the air around the room with such force I could hardly stand straight and was hovering close to Rick’s body over the slab.
