Dusk .::Chapter 30::. Change is Coming
Vampires.
Seduced by a vampire?
Ethan laughed out loud, head thrown back hands in fists as he rocked forward, “vam-vampire?” he managed before laughing again. His side was beginning to ache from the laughter and he tried to calm down.
The psychic glared and crossed her arms over her chest. “The vampires name was Aerabella.” This got Ethan to stop laughing, the dream played through again, vividly this time, Aerabella’s teeth sinking into his neck. He touched the spot of flesh. “Believe me now?”
“How do you know a-“
“I’ve been tracking the vampires in this community for some time. You could call me a hunter of sorts.” She pushed back of her wavy blonde hair. “The Williams are known Vampires. Her father, Michael is a coven leader. He runs a tight ship, mostly they don’t harm humans.”
“But you...hunt them?”
“Naturally. Their numbers are growing. We let them grow, they will over populate us, the reproduce and never die. We will be blood bags and nothing more.” Her chin raised and Ethan could feel power radiate from her. She was a beauty to behold, and more than that, truth. She knew truth, spoke truth, and he wanted to know more.
“Are there more hunters.”
“More than you would believe.” She smiled, “and it’s nearly time for war.”

“Tell me,” I whispered softly, holding the silver clasp in my hand, “tell me more lies.” Part of me despised myself for having listened to so much of Calum’s lies, he had a wife! Part of me wished I’d never found out. Half a life with Calum was more than a full life with anyone else. In isolation, since my parents refused to let me return to school until I was fully recovered, I had much time to think, and most of it was about him.
“Trying to sleep!” Angelique shouted at me from her coffin next to mine.
“Sorry,” I whisper knowing she would hear.
“You wanna talk about it?” She’d come around to me the quickest, she knew I was changed, but she also accepted the changes, knew I’d come back around to myself faster if I was just...accepted again.
“Shut uuuuup,” Tobias groaned from his coffin and Angelique laughed. “I got mid-terms in the morning, leave your girl talk for another night for the love of all that is good in this world!!”
“I’m okay Angel,” I whisper. “Sleep well.”
“Sleep well sister,” she answered and soon enough I heard her breathing even out.
I creaked open my coffin left the room and walked up the stairs. I didn’t think about what my parents might think, and walked out the front door. I wanted to see him. I needed to see him.
***
The custom coffin had come in, it was comfortable, affordable and plain. It wasn’t the luxurious opulence and decorative object he would have typically went for. But then, he wasn’t in the mood for that. Not now. He laid down in it, shut the lid and for the first time in a month and a half fell to sleep.
***
I went to the beach house, I shouldn’t have. I had a feeling he wouldn’t be there anymore and was right. I could smell burnt fabrics but they were nearly washed away by the sent of the lake. They’d been burnt many moons previous. So much of Calum still lingered in my bloodstream and I let it guide me. Part of me knew it was a bad idea, after all I could just bite him, his blood might sing to me and send me into a blood lust delirium. “He probably hates me.” I find the words slip from my mouth as I walk down the dark street. I did attack him, and his wife. The details were still blurred in my mind.
I get to an apartment complex that stands tall and proud while those around it look ready to crumble. Not that it’s anything fancy, just structurally still intact, which is more than the others. I find the buzzer and find that there are only numbers, not names. There is only one that is a hundred number, and I figure it’s the basement. The only place for the sleep conscious vampire to go. I hold the button and a loud bzzzzz comes from the speaker box. I let go and wait till I get a exhausted response, “think you have the wrong number.”
I press the microphone button, “Calum, it’s Aerabella.”
Faster than I could have ever imagined he was opening the door and standing in only his thin drawstring panama pants. My jaw clenched reflexively and my stomach swooned at the sight of him, his hips defined and lines disappearing beneath his pants. I swallow hard and force my eyes up. “You’re married, but I can’t stop thinking about you,” the words just spill before my brain catches up to my hearts, “I know it’s not the blood, it was like this before, I just had more focus, could shut it down, think about other things, but you’re all I think about over and over, and I know you might hate me but-“
I was cut off by the single most amazing moment of my life.
Calum grabbed the back of my neck and kissed me hard on the lips, he had softer lips than I would have suspected, gentle, guiding, testing. His tongue ran across my lips and I opened my mouth allowing his to meet mine. I couldn’t help but run my hands down his muscled chest the reached the waist band of his pants and his hips jerked. He pulled back slowly his breath heavy like mine. “We really shouldn’t do this, your father said specifically...” I kissed his chest since it was as high as I could get with out him bending his head down. He refocused, “specifically said never to see you again.”
“I came to see you,” I whisper licking a line along his collarbone his pulse so close and yet that wasn’t what I wanted. I force myself to take a step back. “What of Olivia?”
“She was taken by the werewolves. Compelling minors.”
“Wolfgang. Skyler, I remember that now. The memories are... blurry.”
I see his hand twitch in my peripheral vision, like he wants to move it but... he finally reaches out slowly and pushes some of my hair back behind my ear. “I’m so sorry for what happened. I... I should have done something to protect you.”
I lean into his hand, he’s a drug and I’m his addict. “It would have only gotten you sent there too.”
“Have you seen...”
I shake my head, “Scarlet? No, my parents haven’t allowed me out of the house.”
“If they find you here, which is where they will surely look first...”
“They won’t find me here. I have to be leaving. I just wanted to... I had to come.”
“You should stay away. Your father will be furious.”
“Do you feel it?” I couldn’t help but ask. “The... shift. Something is coming.”
“Intuition. Yes, all vampires have it, it’s kept us alive. I know something is coming, just don’t know what it is.”
“Nothing will be the same,” I whisper. I grab him around the neck and pull him down to kiss him lightly. I walk down the same, “I’ll be back again tomorrow.”
“I’ll be waiting.” His whisper lingered in the wind.
