//We Run This Town//Chapter 030// Stays In Italy (Part Four)
He stood over me, “you’re dumber than I thought,” Jack said crouching down as I held my stomach, blood was oozing, spilling over my fingertips. “You don’t go and pull a guy with a gun... or this happens.”
“You were going to shoot me anyways, remember?” I bit back.
“Well yeah, but a nice clean shot to the head would have put you out of your misery. I didn’t want you to suffer.” Jack said kindly brushing some of the hair from my face. I was sweating, my body heating up, maybe it was the panic, my heart racing a mile a minute. “I just wanted you dead.”
“Well, I can relate with that,” I said spitting into his face and kicking him in the family jewels he bent over and I grabbed his wrist and kicked the bone in his forearm so hard I felt the bone shift as it broke. Jack howled and the gun fell from his hand. I grabbed it and held it to his head but my hands shook, which I wanted to blame on the blood loss, but it was because I didn’t want to end someone’s life, I didn’t want to commit murder even in self defence. I was the worst mafia princess ever.
He howled in rage and I heard Gavin cry out in warning Jack brought his knee down onto the bullet wound and I let go of the gun and tried to push him off, he grabbed it with his good hand and pressed the gun to my head. “Nice knowing you princess.”
I heard the door squeal as it had when I opened it and seen a halo of blonde hair. “I’d say it’s nice knowing you, but it wasn’t.” I retorted and his body fell off of me after a loud blast.
I looked to the door and seen Preston, a man who was vaguely familiar, Charlie and, “dad?” The four men came running down the stairs, Preston was to me first and had taken off his t-shirt and was pressing it against the wound. The other man went by me and took the gag from Gavin’s mouth.
“Dad? What are you doing...here... with them?” Gavin sounded loopy.
“Charlie, give me a hand,” Trevor called and Charlie walked by me and helped lift Gavin up getting the barbed wire restraints off the hook of the lift and then set him down on the floor next to me. “Gavin, how are you feeling?”
“Like I’ve lost a lot of blood,” Gavin retorted angrily. “A real shocker.”
“You’re okay?” I asked turning my head to him as my father put my head in his lap rather than on the cold hard cement.
“You got shot Lili, you worry about you.” Gavin responded.
Charlie got wire cutters and chopped the barbed wire around his wrists. Trevor brought out some gauze from his jacket. Charlie raised an eyebrow. “Serena gave it to me before we left.” He wrapped it around each of his sons writs.
“Dad... I get why they are here, and I almost get why you are here, but how did you find us, and... why are you with them.”
“I’ll explain later,” Trevor responded, “are you okay to walk.”
“There is nothing wrong with my legs dad,” Gavin responded but as Charlie and Trevor helped him to his feet he was wobbly and unsteady, “you know, other than the loss of blood.”
“She’s losing a lot of blood, there isn’t going to be a lot that Serena can do,” Preston said.
“I’m going to be okay? Right?” I asked weakly.
“Yeah,” Preston responded a pained look upon his face, “you’ll be perfect.” He tried to smile but it wavered and disappeared. “Hospital sir.” I seen my father nod before he shifted and picked me up into his strong arms Preston walked backwards keeping the pressure applied and when I turned my head the other way I could see Trevor and Charlie helping Gavin along. He locked eyes with me and forced a smile, I forced one back.
Black ebbed into the edges of my vision, I heard Charlie’s voice, “Ceasar, we’re coming out with Gavin and Lili.” I couldn’t see him anymore I was looking at Preston, but I assumed Charlie was talking into his bluetooth. “Bring the car up, we need to get them to a hospital.”
The all piled into the van they drove there and Ceasario drove. “There is a bright light” I said.
“That’s the sun,” Preston retorted keeping pressure applied. “You stay with us you hear.”
But I knew that Preston was lying. I could hear the rain pouring down. The sun had gone away.
And since he lied for me, I lied for him, “yeah, I’ll stay.”
“Good,” he responded and I could feel the comforting pressure of his hand pressing down on my injury. “Step on it Ceasar!”
“I’m driving as fast as this shit-box will let me.” He responded taking a sharp turn.
“What do we tell the medical personel?” Trevor asked.
“Tell her she was a tragic victim of a drive by shooting,” Antonio said, and I felt his hand wrap around mine. “Your son is suicidal.”
“No! He’ll be put under phyc-eval.”
“Kinky sex?”
I laughed, it hurt, but it felt good.
“You have nothing better?” Trevor asked.
“Nope, you could take him to Serena, but she doesn’t have any blood, and he probably needs some.”
“Could we steal it?”
“Dad, what the hell?” Gavin was woozy, but he knew stealing medical supplies was wrong.
“Could we?”
“Charlie?”
“Yeah, I could probably get some, I’ll need Ceasar though.”
“Do it.”
We came into the hospital and I felt my dad pick me up again as he took me out of the van Preston kept applying pressure. The rain fell on my face and it felt wonderful. Cleansing. Black ate up more of my vision, tunnelling to nothing, I heard Preston and my father yelling, but that soon faded too, and then the rain... was gone.

Charlie walked in to the hospital with Ceasario. “You distract whoever comes close to the supply closet, got it.”
“Easy,” Ceasario replied, he watched as Charlie went into the door and it wasn’t long before a nurse came around with a cart to be filled with supplies. He touched her arm gently and smiled, “hi, Nurse...”
“Jess, it’s Nurse Jessica.”
“Pleasure,” he responded, “I was wondering if you could tell me where I might find some coffee.”
Jessica looked at him and crossed her arms over her chest. She was all kinds of curvy, dark skin, long hair up in a strict bun, she somehow managed to make scrubs look good. Her olive green eyes stared up at him, “you’re completely lost aren’t you?”
“That obvious?” he asked despite knowing the hospital inside and out.
“Coffee is nearly on the other side of the hospital.” She responded, “and you’re in a staff only restricted zone.”
Ceasario heard the two quiet knocks that said Charlie was ready to come out. “Really?” He responded, “I’m so sorry, how about you show me where the coffee stand is and I’ll buy you one.”
She laughed, it was a pretty sound, Ceasario thought. “Alright, coffee then, I’m on break anyhow.”
He lead her away, “then why were you doing work?”
“Seemed like a better use of my time than being idle and indulging in the sweets from the counter.”
“Well I’m glad you’re so dedicated, otherwise I’d still be lost, and I wouldn’t have a coffee date.”
“Oh no,” she laughed, “this is not a date.”
“Why not?”
“Well one I don’t know your name, and two I’m working.”
“Well, a pre-date?” he asked.
“Not even a pre-date, I don’t know your name.”
Ceasario was reluctant. He knew it was a bad idea, getting involved with a nurse, they had moral compasses encased in gold. He killed people, and she tried to save people. Still he found his name slipping off his tongue, “Ceasario DeLuca.”
“I like it,” she responded. He looked back and seen Charlie exit the door.

Serena laid Gavin down in the infirmary. “Where is my son Charlie.”
“Chatting up a pretty little nurse,” Charlie responded, “don’t worry, he’s fine.”
“You left him in the hospital.”
“We had to get Gavin here, besides I left Preston, Antonio and Lilianna there too.”
Serena cut off the bandages Trevor had applied. “Okay out, you too Trevor. I need my work space.”
“He’s my son.”
“And I need my space,” Serena shouted back at him.
“She won’t work until everyone is out,” Charlie said grabbing Trevor’s arms and leading him out. “Serena does good work. Trust in her.”
“You all kill people for a living.”
“And you protect killers for a better living than staying on the right side of things.” Charlie responded. “So don’t get all holier than thou on me.”
“Will my son be alright?”
“Serena thinks so,” Charlie responded as they headed to the kitchen, “a lot of stitches, but he’ll be alright.”
“And Lilianna?”
Charlie rubbed the beard forming on his chin. “Only time will tell.”
