I sighed and did the back of my lace up ball gown, not as easy as it sounds; after a lot of huffing and puffing I finally got it done. I picked up my red small clutch covered in diamonds and looks in the mirror. My raven black curls were all neat and spread out along my shoulders and back, my brown eyes which were so dark that you could barely see my pupils just ‘popped’ I looked enchanting. My high cheekbones were covered with a soft bronze colour and my full lips were covered with a dark plum lip liner and then filled in with a blood red. I picked up my small disposable phone and placed it in my bag. With one final look in the mirror I headed down the corridor to the elevator. I sighed and pressed the ground floor button, I could feel the nerves stirring in my stomach and the fine hairs on my body become alert, I laughed quietly to myself and shook my head, making the curls tumble out and look less neat. After years doing this, I still got the same feeling of adrenaline and each time it seemed to become stronger, amplifying itself and setting me on edge. Caught up in my own thoughts the elevator dinged and the doors open, my stride was strong and confidant not some petty debutant I was supposed to be. I frowned slightly at the black man with a large afro outside, his hand under his armpits, jumping up and down lightly trying to keep cool. I reached the automatic doors and they opened, he eyes me for a few moments, his eyes dilating. I could already feel my shackles rising, becoming offensive and defensive. He looked into my eyes briefly and stopped his gawking, seeming to straighten. “Ma’am, you wouldn’t happen to be Alessandra De Luca? Heading to the Grand Museum?” His accent was heavily coated with a Louisianan tongue, I sighed a little. This will have to do. “Yes, I am De Luca. You are my driver?” I sounded formal and polite, although distant. He grinned and beckoned me forward, continuing to walk to the open car park. My eyes flicked over the trees, cars and streets taking in my surroundings. We approached a black BMW with dark tinted windows, I couldn’t help but laugh. How ironic? “I hope you like it Ma’am” He opened the door for me and held my hand as I climbed up into it. The seats were comfy and the car smelled new, I dug my nails lightly into my palms trying to make the adrenaline cool down a bit, but it just surged stronger, sometimes it felt like it controlled me in certain situations. The driver pulled out of the car park and started to drive towards the Museum. How strange to have an important ball in a Museum, I hope they realize that quite a lot of things would have been going missing today. Even though my dress was beautiful, it annoyed me, it clung to ever curve possible and making me more of a threat, I didn’t have any of my normal weapons on me, all I had was a -small- silver dagger and -small- wooden dagger in my -small- purse. The driver came to a slow stop outside a magnificent white marbled building, he came round opening the doors, he winked at me and held my hand briefly as he helped me down. This time he was wearing a navy blue suit with small white lines going through, he looked pretty cute actually. “See y’all doll face, give me a ring when you need me” He winked at me and went back into the BMW. “Okay, wow, that was awkward” I muttered. I regained my posture and steadied my pace walking up the red carpet to the wide open oak doors. As I came closer I overheard the female guard mutter: “Who’s she?” The over guard just shrugged casually looking at the list of names as I approached. “Name?” He said in a monotone voice. “Alessandra De Luca” I smiled pleasantly at him, he looked like an average American cop, overweight, podgy features, arrogant, dark hair and plain blue eyes. His small piggy eyes went up and down the list, he nodded, then ticked of a name. “Enjoy your evening” His voice sounded tense and annoyed. I looked over my shoulder frowning, and then continued to walk. “What the hell was that?” I sounded annoyed, not good. I looked around the room of various colours in different suits and dresses, male and female. I spotted a toilet sign and stridden towards it, ignoring the stares and murmurs. I was a bird of prey among tiny mice, while seeking the predator which threatened to destroy their puny pathetic lives. Sometimes, I wonder why I even bothered. No, that’s stupid and nasty, I should care for humankind, I am one and I need to protect my people from further damage, even though we might be selfish, greedy, arrogant, ignorant to the world around us- Wait, okay that’s enough. Well, you get the point. Humankind have feelings, lives, families, brothers, sisters and parents, the misery which can come to them is overpowering, its uncalled for and should be stopped. I opened the white door to the female toilets, there were a few women at the sink, which I smiled to and continued to the empty cubicle. I locked the door, pulled down the lid and sat down, focusing on things around me, I missed most of the conversation the girls were having, but as I was refocusing, I heard them. “So where is the hotty that’s you’ve seen?” The girl sounded mildly drunk with a slur to her words. “No, I haven’t seen him recently, we came in here remember” The girl sounded sober and bored. “Hmpf, well, better get back on the prowl before our mothers catch us!” I smirked, the door closed as they left. Debutants nowadays weren’t allowed to pick people they loved, they had to be paired up by their mothers and fathers to people high in society, no matter if they are woman beaters when not in the public eye. I unlocked the door and went out of the toilets, I looked around the room trying to spot my cold friend, and I did. In a black suit he stood by the swan ice sculptures, he was looking at another man who was dancing with a rather drunk blonde in a black dress, I watched him. He seemed tense, after awhile of dancing the man with dark brown hair took the girl off the dance floor and slowly into a corridor, the cold one started moving, striding across the dance floor, like a predator which has spotted its prey. I felt anger rise up through me, how dare he go for more then one! How. Dare. He! I followed soon after, my movements silent and stealthily. The corridor got darker and then I heard a slam of a door, I ran forward and saw the cold one, he was looking at the door, his body was shaking, I was disgusted. I stayed behind the corner, and moved forward when I heard the door slowly click in place. I opened the door myself, as little as possible and making sure there wasn’t even a click of the lock to be heard. I rushed forward, keeping my movements little and silent, at the end of the corridor I could hear a woman moaning, and something red and scaly hovering over her. Wait, what? Oh shit. What the hell was that? Something grabbed me from behind, placing a hand over my mouth so I couldn’t scream. “Be quiet and get out of here” I snorted, the cold one had guts, that was for sure. I elbowed him in the ribs with my right and pushed my hand against his with my left, it had the effect I was desired for as he was caught off guard. I looked at him and then looked to the woman, the red snake had started wrapping itself around her and the girl was no longer moaning. I opened my clutch purse and pulled out the small silver dagger, crouching, then with a spurt of adrenaline I rushed forward and grabbed the neck of the snake and plunged my dagger through its mouth, it started to sizzle and go limp. The woman seemed to have passed out. The Shapeshifter started to sizzle and crumble, slowly falling away, leaving ashes in his place. I leant over the girl and placed two fingers against her neck, trying to find a pulse. She was alive. I looked over my shoulder and saw the cold one in shock. “How did you manage that?” His voice was beautiful and like a melody, trying to draw me in. I grinned and reached in my purse, pulling out my small oak dagger. “And your next, leech” I started towards him, my strides powerful and predatorily elegant.
